Being the first family member to have a Penn State degree and a J.D. under her belt, Millie Kanyar ’76 cheerfully shares her college experiences at Ogontz (Abington) campus, inspirations that she faithfully lives by, and networking advice for current students.
Alumna Millie Kanyar
“Penn State was an excellent choice for me; it was a quality university with the added benefit of being near home,” says Millie, who attended the Ogontz (Abington) campus for two years before studying at University Park. She explained that her transition to a bigger campus was noteworthy because Ogontz (Abington) campus offered her a little taste of freedom while staying on track. It prepared her well; she got to cultivate her competitive nature while playing varsity sports and learn about women rights and activism while taking sociology classes. Similarly, Millie took her interests in rights and justice with her to Florida Coastal School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctorate Degree. She now divides her time between her law and real estate business.

Millie is a successful, driven professional who has belonged to several organizations: The Board of Directors for Florida Coastal School of Law Alumni Association, The Hispanic Bar Association, The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association, Florida Realtors Disaster Relief Trustee, Florida Realtors Director and so forth.
She tells us the role of being a problem solver, which helped her achieved her many accomplishments. “I advise people to believe they can do more. They just need to be determined and figure out their driving force,” says Millie during an interview.
The Penn State alumna reminds undergraduate students “…to take advantage of social media but also be careful of what you publicly share. Networking is more than printing and handing out cards. It’s a relationship building process.” Millie is a firm believer that networking is a powerful skill that offers many benefits to students. It is an effective way to gain knowledge by interacting with experienced professionals while creating a tighter community. With Penn State having the largest dues-paying association in the country, current students have an opportunity to make the blue and white nation stronger. We thank Millie Kanyar for being an inspiring graduate, lawyer and supporter of Penn State.
