“If you’re going to do something, then do it right,” says Roni Stutman, Senior Associate General Counsel at UnitedHealth Group. A graduate of the Quinnipiac University School of Law, Ms. Stutman is a strong advocate of pro-bono legal work who enjoys helping people. She is also a music enthusiast and is a singer and keyboard player for the Connecticut-based R & B/groove band, All Funk’d Up.
As a transferred student from Sarah Lawrence College, Ms. Stutman attended Penn State Ogontz (Abington) during her sophomore and junior years. Besides Stutman’s fondness of science and music, she notably enjoyed studying biology with Professor Neil Mercando. Outside of academics, the campus choir president also took an active role in student government. Ms. Stutman thought students were really engaged and challenged to think for themselves; specifically noting that the anti-apartheid discussions which were ongoing at the time assisted students in thinking outside the box. Additionally, “the diverse round of courses really helped as stepping stones for my future career…” says the ’87 graduate.
In regards to advice for undergraduates, Ms. Stutman urges students not to worry as much if they’re currently unsure of post-collegiate plans. It’s more important to “…cultivate the right skills to apply in different fields” if students are unsure about a career path. Ms. Stutman also feels that it’s crucial to find the right communication delivery style because it can vary from person to person. Ms. Stutman concluded, “in order to be successful, the number one tip is to be thoughtful of what you’re trying to communicate and visualize what you’re ultimately trying to achieve in the end. This can be applied to any walk of life.”
